October/November 2026 Severe Weather-Related Road and Trail Damage

On October 22 and 23, and October 31-November 1, 2026, heavy rain throughout Southwest Colorado cause extremely dangerous conditions associated with widespread flooding, road, trail, and infrastructure damage, and downed trees. As of November 3, Forest Service personnel are assessing conditions across the Rio Grande National Forest. It may take days and even weeks to evaluate the full extent of the damage.

We encourage the public to avoid venturing out to the Forest when possible. Local emergency responders and search and rescue teams are already in high demand, and rescuse or help may not be immediately possible for Forest visitors.

See up-to-date information below on road closures and other road status updates.

Check with local counties on county road closures. Check cotrip.org for state highway closures.
