Soapstone Prairie - Sylvatic Plague in Prairie Dog Colonies

Sylvatic plague has been confirmed in prairie dog colonies at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area. The disease is spread by fleas. Please use precautions similar to those for West Nile virus and ticks – stay on designated trails, avoid contact with wildlife, and use DEET-based insect repellent.
