Electric Hills Seasonal Wildlife Closure
From December 1 to April 15 annually, Electric Hills (Zone 4) area in the Dry Creek Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA) is closed to the public to prevent disturbance to wintering big game.
Winter wildlife closures are essential for the survival of deer, elk, antelope, bighorn sheep, and other species during their most stressful season. Instead of hibernating, these animals rely on fat reserves to survive. Disturbances from people or pets force them to flee, wasting critical energy.
As spring arrives, animals are at their weakest and food remains scarce, making this a peak time for winter-related deaths. Respecting the full duration of closures helps wildlife conserve energy and safely give birth in the spring.
