Wildlife Closure
Comment

From December 1 to June 30 annually, all areas south of the Ridge Trail within the Emerald Mountain Special Recreation Area (SRMA) outside Steamboat Springs, including Beall Trail and Kemry Draw, are closed to all forms of entry to protect elk during their sensitive winter and calving seasons. This closure corresponds with Colorado Parks and Wildlife lands to the east and the Humble Ranch property to the southeast.

Other trails such as Ridge, Rotary and Wild Rose trails at Emerald Mountain remain open all year and can be enjoyed by visitors. This seasonal closure is in place to protect critical winter range for elk and mule deer. For more information, see link to the Little Snake Field Office Seasonal Closure website and associated map.
