Mueller State Park Seasonal Wildlife Closure

Closure
Reason
Wildlife Closure
Comment

From December 1 to July 31, public access is closed in the area bounded by Sand Creek Trail on the east, Dome Rock Trail on the north, and the property boundaries on the west and south for elk breeding.

This seasonal closure is in place to prevent disturbance to elk during calving season. Human and pet activity can stress elk during birth and nursing and cause them to abandon their vulnerable calves. Elk may also act aggressively to defend their young, posing a safety risk to visitors. Always leave young wildlife alone. It is not unusual to find calves and fawns alone, as the mother may temporarily leave the calf to find food. Your distance ensures their survival.
