Please Note: The area represented on our map is not a perfect representation of the closure boundaries currently in place by both the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Forest Service. For the safety of firefighters and the public, the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests’ Ouray Ranger District has expanded the existing closure area in the vicinity of the Gold Mountain Fire.

The expanded closure area includes National Forest System lands southeast of Ridgway, east of Highway 550 and the town of Ouray, south of Highway 50, and west of Lake City. The area extends across the Uncompahgre Wilderness toward the Little Cimarron drainage and Uncompahgre Peak, reaching north to the Big Blue Creek ridgeline before returning west along the Forest boundary toward Dexter Creek Road. The closure restricts public access to all lands, roads and trails within the described area (see map), including but not limited to:

Beaver Lake Campground and Fishing Site

Big Cimarron Campground

Clear Lake/Rowdy Lake Trailhead

Courthouse Trailhead

Cutler Creek Trailhead

Dexter Creek Trailhead

East Fork Cimarron Trailhead and Dispersed Camping Area

Fall Creek Trailhead

Horsethief Trailhead

Jackson Guard Station

Middle Fork Cimarron Trailhead and Dispersed Camping Area

Silver Jack Boat Ramp

Vista Point Trailhead

West Fork Cimarron Trailhead and Dispersed Camping Area

A violation of this closure order is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551; 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
