Cross Creek to Treasure Vault Lake

Featured Route
on Cross Creek and Bolts Ditch in White River National Forest
  • Total Length
    28.6mi
  • Ascent
    5,189ft
  • Difficulty
    Moderate

A steady old trail that was once used by wagons to access Treasure Vault Lake, this one is now reserved for foot passengers and follows Cross Creek. As its name would suggest, it meanders over and across multiple others. You’ll walk through a swampy, glacial valley and past old mining cabins.

Being almost thirty miles round trip, though not otherwise difficult, Cross Creek should be broken into sections for backpackers taking the entire route. For something shorter, the five mile mark makes for a great turnaround point. Note that if you plan to camp overnight, you must register at the trailhead.
