A beautiful hike that begins at the American Lakes trailhead. The trail winds through forests and meadows until emerging above treeline to a beautiful basin surrounding the American Lakes. There are additional hiking options that include going over Thunder Pass into RMNP or up to Snow Lake. There are spectacular views w/fly & lure fishing permitted in the lakes.

This area is also a great backpack trip. Fires prohibited above timberline at all times. PLEASE NOTE that backpacking regulations may change in the future so please check with the park (either by phone or at the visitor center) before any backpacking trip to this area.
