Distance shown is ONE WAY.

This is a pretty easy hike, with the majority of elevation gain in the last 1/2 mile or so.  In the summer, wildflowers abound, and in early fall, the trail winds through groves of golden aspens.

If you have an eagle eye, you’ll be able to recognize the lizard rock formation that gives this hike it’s name.  The turn to Lizard Rock is unmarked, but obvious. if you run into a sign at a trail intersection that indicates you’re entering a designated wilderness area, you missed the turn to Lizard Rock by about 300’.

There is a short scramble at the end of the trail onto Lizard Rock itself.

The trail starts in the Aspen Grove campground. Parking in the campground itself is only for visitors with campsite reservations. Otherwise, park in the ample parking area just outside the gate, right off of County Road 77.

The trailhead is about 13.5 miles north of US Highway 24 on County Road 77, which is just west of the town of Lake George.
