The Quandary Peak trailhead provides access to the 13th highest mountain in Colorado. Often considered one of the easier “Fourteeners” to summit, hiking Quandary Peak is challenging due to the high elevation, extreme exposure, large talus fields, and variable weather conditions.

Hikers that reach the summit are rewarded with spectacular views of the Tenmile and Gore Ranges to the north.

Because this trail travels above timberline, hikers should start the ascent early in the morning because of the ever-changing mountain weather. Many hikers start before dawn using headlamps. There is always a strong chance of afternoon thundershowers accompanied by LIGHTNING.

Please observe Leave No Trace principles:

Staying on trail, following proper poop etiquette, and packing out trash limits your impact on water quality and sensitive plant and animal species found in the alpine tundra. Keeping dogs on leash or under voice command reduces disturbance to mountain goats, ptarmigan, marmots, and other wildlife.

Being a good steward ensures that Quandary Peak is conserved for generations to come!
