Five Lakes Loop

Your Choice of Subalpine Lakes
Followed by Scenic Waterfall

Featured Route
on Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Total Length
    7¼mi
  • Ascent
    1,525ft
  • Difficulty
    Moderate

This loop gives you the option to visit five subalpine lakes, if you choose the out and back to Emerald Lake, and ends with a view of Alberta Falls.

The 7 mile loop can be shortened to about 5 miles by skipping the Bear Lake loop as well as the trip to Emerald Lake (making it the 4 Lakes Loop!).

Given the popularity of Bear Lake and the area generally, it’s best to start as early as possible in the morning. Note that Bear Lake is served by the park’s shuttle, in the event you cannot or do not wish to park at the trailhead.
