This route takes a gently sloping path through forests of lodgepole pine, quaking aspen, subalpine fir, and Engelmann spruce. It then opens up to the vast expanse of Big Meadows. You may see moose or elk foraging, but be sure to keep your distance. You’ll also pass by Sam Stone Ranch Ruins, a reminder of early settlers in the area.

The depicted route starts at Green Mountain Trailhead and travels counter-clockwise, but the experience is equally rewarding if you start at the Orahu Creek Trailhead or head clockwise.
