Rifle Falls Trail
Try this 0.3 mile out-and-back trail near Rifle, Colorado. The Rifle Falls trail is the closest you’ll get to hiking in the tropics in Colorado This trail goes to the base of Rifle Falls, a beautiful waterfall year-round. The trail (non-accessible portion) leads to stairs that lead behind the waterfall for a unique perspective. Be aware, this part of the trail can be very wet.
Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. This paved trail starts from the restrooms near the campground at Rifle Falls State Park and goes to the bridge at the base of the falls.
Accessibility: The trail surface is asphalt, wood, or steel bridge (with railings), and typically at least 10 feet wide. There is one section to access the trail from the parking lot that is narrower ~5-6 feet between the gate and a large rock. The estimated grade is mostly gentle (5% or less) for the first 0.1 miles then steeper (8-12%) from about 0.1 to 0.2 miles when going northbound toward the bridge by the falls. There are picnic tables along the route for resting.
