Torrey’s Peak
Torrey’s Peak is a popular 14er in the front range. It’s summit is the 2nd highest point on the continental divide, only slightly behind its neighbor Grays Peak. The main route is the South Slopes Route, which mostly follows the Grays Peak Trail until just below the summit. It is a steady incline from the parking lot to the summit on a well-designed trail. It is often combined with its neighbor and fellow 14er, Grays Peak (Torrey’s and Gray’s Peak Combo).
Class: 1. The Grays and Torrey’s Peak Trails are considered class 1, as it is well defined and built trail from the parking lot to the summit.
Trailhead/Parking: The trailhead is open seasonally (conditions dependent) so contact the forest service for current conditions. Also note, parking along the road is illegal and enforeced, if the upper parking lot is full you must start from the lot at I-70. If starting from the parking lot at I-70, it adds 3 miles each way to the hike. The road can also be rough in places and is not suitable for all vehicles.
Note: The trail does pass below known avalanche terrain, so be aware and check Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) forecasts when there is much snow present
