Lawn Lake
Featured Route
Lawn Lake is a beautiful alpine lake located in the northern reaches of Rocky Mountain National park. This moderate 12.2 mile (round trip) trail climbs steadily from the Lawn lake trailhead to reach the lake. This trail largely follows the Roaring River, which was the waterway of the famous Lawn lake flood, a fatal flood in 1982 when the aging dam on Lawn Lake failed sending huge amounts of water downstream and into Estes Park. Since then the dam has been removed and the trail rebuilt.
From the lake, there are trails that lead further into the Mummy range and the northern part of the park. There are also a number of backcountry sites that can be accessed along the trail.
