Lake Helene Trail
Lake Helene is a beautiful sub-alpine lake most commonly reached via 3 mile moderate trail from the Bear Lake Trailhead. This trail is less busy than many of the others leaving from the trailhead with several great spots to stop and enjoy the views along the way. The views of Notchtop Mountain from the lake alone are worth the hike but if you continue on the trail ~0.1-0.2 miles past Lake Helene towards Odessa Lake, the views get even better. This area is open in the winter but make sure to check the avalanche forecasts and have knowledge of crossing avalanche terrain before setting out.
Note: The Bear Lake Trailhead can be very busy and the park does provide a free shuttle service. Contact the park or check their website for more information on parking. There is also a backcountry campsite along the trail and you will also need to check with the park as reservations are required and they can fill up quickly after public release each year.
