Sky Pond is one of the most stunning locations in all of Rocky Mountain national park. An amazing alpine lake sitting below jagged rock spires can be a unforgettable experience. It is reached via a difficult ~4.25 mile out and back trail, beginning at the Glacier Gorge Trailhead. The first ~3 miles follows the same trail as the Loch and then around its northern shore. From there it climbs steeply in places to the beautiful Timberline Falls.

The trail gets ‘interesting’ as you try to follow the trail staying just to the right of the falls, although at times, in the falls that can make for a wet experience. Once at the top of the falls, the trail passes the Lake of Glass before finally reaching the shores of Sky Pond. Through this section the trail can be hard to follow, especially in early summer, so keep your eyes peeled.

This area can be accessed year-round but in the winter be very aware of Avalanche danger and the cold/windy conditions that exist here. It can be very dangerous if taken too lightly.

Note: The Glacier Gorge Trailhead can be very busy, filling most days. The park does provide a free shuttle service that includes the Glacier Gorge trailhead. Contact the park or check their website for more information on parking
