Black Lake Trail
At the head of Glacier Gorge sits Black Lake, a beautiful sub-alpine lake situated directly below the imposing McHenry’s Peak. Reached via moderate-challenging ~4.5 mile trail the Glacier Gorge Trailhead. Black Lake is reached after ~2 more miles from Mills Lake, with the sight of the beautiful Ribbon Falls letting you know you have almost arrived. The lake, named Black Lake for its ‘eerily’ dark waters, is a scenic place to rest before continuing on unofficial and unmaintained trails to higher alpine objectives or retuning to the trailhead.
Note: The Glacier Gorge Trailhead can be very busy, filling most days. The park does provide a free shuttle service that includes the Glacier Gorge trailhead. Contact the park or check their website for more information on parking
