The Poudre River Trail is a scenic trail following the Poudre River as it leaves its source and flows until reaching the northern boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park. This section of the trail is ~9.4 miles but the trail continues along the Poudre River to Hwy 14 (well outside the park) for another ~10 miles. If starting from the trailhead the trail descends slowly for most of the route, mostly in meadows but getting more forested the closer you get to the park boundary.

You can do this trail as a long through hike (including the ~10 miles outside the park) or as an out and back as far as you would like to go. This can done as a day hike but there are multiple backcountry sites along the route to break up the length (make sure to check with park/website as reservations are required and usually sell out not long after being made public).
