Rimrock Trail
The Rimrock Trail is a moderate 2.4 mile out and back trail in Castlewood Canyon State Park. The Rimrock trail begins at the Lucas Homestead Trailhead and gradually descends to Cherry Creek. At the junction of the Creek bottom Trail, stay left and continue by crossing the bridge over Cherry Creek. From here it is a steady but rarely steep climb, to the top of the canyon. The trail is generally easy to follow and a number of steps help with the ascent. The trail then follows the canyon rim for the next # miles before descending back towards the creek. Although the trail spends a lot time along the rim, the views are generally the best from when you first make it to the top of the rim.
When you get to towards the end, you can turn around and return the way you came or turn it into a loop. The most common loop follows the creek bottom trail back to near the trailhead (Canyon Ruins Featured Route) but there are other longer loops to choose from as well.
