Scenic Overlook to Cookie Tree Trail
This route combine the Scenic overlook trail with the Cookie Tree Trail, making for a 1.2 mile out-and-back trail that allows for great views of the reservoir and Sneffles range at the top with lakeshore access at the bottom.
Starting at the visitor center and taking the Scenic Overlook Trail, there is an observation platform looking out over the lake and mountains. It then connects to the Cookie Trail (after ~0.15 miles), where you begin the gradual descent down to the lake with occasional views to the trees. Once near the lake, the trail opens up with shore access, until you reach the bottom trailhead. There are frequent deer and bird sightings along this trail and throughout the park.
You can do this route from either direction as well as just doing the scenic overlook trail, or start the cookie tree trail from the Wapiti Trail.
