  • Ascent
    589ft
  • Difficulty
    Easy

The route is an easy ride or hike along mostly old logging roads that meander through meadows, ponderosa pines, and granite outcroppings.

From the trailhead, you’ll approach the South Line Pine Creek in less than a mile. Stock riders should cross at the bypass just west of the wooden bridge. The trail continues northeast past the intersections of Frog Pond and East Dowdy Lake trails. The base of Mount Margaret can be reached by following the trail left at the next two junctions just before and after Frog Pond.

The trail stops short of Mount Margaret itself, but it is not a difficult scramble to the top. This is no 14er, but its views showcase the beauty of the surrounding Red Feather Lakes landscape.

Horse trailer parking is available at the trailhead.  There are five designated campsites along the trail with benches and grills, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
