This trail makes for an excellent longer day trip or relatively easy overnight backpack. Mostly flat for about 4 miles at the start, the trail ascends alongside Buchanan and Cascade Creeks offering gorgeous views of the surrounding wilderness and small waterfalls. The tranquil Mirror and Crater Lakes mark the end, sporting 12 designated campsites and stunning views of Lone Eagle Peak.

NOTE: This area requires permits for camping throughout most of the summer, please check with the USFS for details. Please camp in designated sites only and make sure to arrive early because the area is very popular for overnight trips. Moose also frequent Monarch Lake and Crater and Mirror Lakes.
