Pancake Rocks Out and Back
This hike doesn’t just lead to interesting rock formations. It’s a decent workout that follows a creek for a bit through pine forests. Abundant peeks at Pikes peak and Sentinel Point abound. The trail is clearly marked with signage at two forks that are fairly close to one another Go right at both forks, and this will lead you off the Horse Thief Falls trail onto the Pancake Rock way. The path follows a shallow gulch for a bit until it crosses into the next section. Much of the elevation gain takes place via switchbacks at this point in the trek. This potion terminates with a relatively flat summit that features fantastic views of The Sangre de Cristos and some great rock formations. Look for a Ring the Peak marker. It’s about a mile more to the true Pancake Rocks.
