This 13er is a challenging but rewarding climb that offers spectacular views of the Sangre de Christo Wilderness and San Luis Valley to its west. No special skills or equipment are generally needed, but you should prepare for a strenuous all-day trek the requires starting early. See the USFS summary here.

Trailhead

From the trailhead, the main trail heads south past the restrooms before meeting up with the Rainbow Trail (depicted here). An alternative shortcut is via the Dry Creek Access #1368 that starts north of the trailhead.

While steep, especially the second half once you begin up the ridge, wayfinding is generally not difficult.
