This 13er is a challenging but rewarding climb that offers spectacular views of the Sangre de Christo Wilderness and San Luis Valley to its west. No special skills or equipment are generally needed, but you should prepare for a strenuous all-day trek the requires starting early. See the USFS summary here.
From the trailhead, the main trail heads south past the restrooms before meeting up with the Rainbow Trail (depicted here). An alternative shortcut is via the Dry Creek Access #1368 that starts north of the trailhead.
The final stretch may require some scrambling, but the views make everything worthwhile.
