Right out of the gate, this expert level route steps up the challenge by taking you up Eagle Valley Trail and through the Birth Canal, a narrow and technical slot canyon. After climbing out of the canyon, you will head generally north while winding around the eroded fingers in the mixture of adobe and rock. There will be 1-1.5 foot rock ledges and exposure to significant drop-offs. Once you turn east and then south, you’ll be riding along the rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, which provides superb views and is a more relaxed ride back to the trailhead.

Just north of Montrose in west-central Colorado lies the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area (NCA), a diverse landscape ranging from adobe badlands to rugged pinyon and juniper-covered slopes. ”-  BLM Area Overview
