Crazy Gulch, Moonshine, and West Creek Loop

Trip Report by TheTaylerClark TheTaylerClark

A low trafficked trail system just outside of Divide that offers sweeping vistas, meadows & forests and a nicely graded trail for families to enjoy. Starting this loop going clockwise on Crazy Gulch was pleasant, until roughly 1 1/2 miles in, where a sign is posted stating the trail is closed for revegetation. Be that as it may, there looked to still be signs of foot traffic on this trail, so I decided to go ahead anyways. The remaining part of Crazy Gulch from the closed sign, to about 2 1/12 miles in, is easy enough to follow however at about the 2 1/2 mile mark, the trail is lost to the heavy grass and brush and was very hard to find. Ended up crossing over the gate and climbing up the dirt access road, until I saw sign of the actual trail near West Creek, then hopped back over and bushwhacked my way back to the intended route. There is no easy way to explain which way to go from that point, other than keep right sharper than what AllTrails shows. Once back on the trail, its very straightforward and easy to follow again back to the trailhead/parking area. I’d say this is a decent area for locals looking for a quick afternoon jaunt, but the closed trail sign and lack of a solid trail there past the sign, made it a no go for me.
