Lion’s Head via Lion’s Back Trail

Trip Report by TheTaylerClark TheTaylerClark

The longest and most scenic route in the park; Lion’s Head offers expansive and scenic views along the entire trail, all the way up to the summit in which you’ll be greeted with incredible views of Pine Junction, Elk Falls and the Front Range beyond! Day use access costs $10.00 and offers multiple parking lots, which are all paved. If you’re feeling up for it, the park also offers 25 walk-in campsites that have dedicated tent pads, food storage lockers and running water access. Seeing as this is a state park, there is a visitor/information center, guided tours, weekly events and ADA accessible trail-going options such as the new tracked wheelchairs for rent! The trail itself is well marked, maintained and offers several dedicated rock climbing spots, dotted all around the park for all skill levels. There is no technical scrambling involved on this particular route, and can be reached by most patrons assuming adequate physical stamina. All in all, this is a fantastic state park, and I highly recommend this area to anyone and everyone, considering the wide range of trail options with varying degrees of difficulty!
