Stove Mountain

Trip Report by TheTaylerClark TheTaylerClark

Greetings everyone! I’ve added this off-trail route to AllTrails for more advanced hikers/climbers who are seeking a challenge with a spectacular payoff. The views from the summit after a hard climb are breathtaking, and I hope others find even half as much enjoyment on this route as I did. I saw this stout peak from afar while day hiking St. Mary’s Falls, and decided I had to give it a go. I’m so glad I did as this was well worth the slog up. You’re unlikely to encounter many people, if at all, at the summit, as this requires some steep off-trail bushwhacking, route finding and a couple small creek crossings. The easiest way to tackle this mountain is via St. Mary’s Falls trail to the Mt. Rosa summit cutoff trail, to the base of the peak, where you’ll descend down into the ravine below and straight back up to the top. There is no technical climbing or scrambling required here, with the main challenge being the bushwhacking/route finding. I’d only recommend this to experienced hikers who have route finding/bushwhacking experience and aren’t afraid to get a little dirty. Also, don’t forget to sign the summit register, you earned it! Hope to see you out there, stay safe & enjoy! - TC
